Benzidine:

- Health Hazards: Occupational exposure is strongly associated with bladder cancer. It is also linked to cancers of the liver, kidney, and other organs. It can cause damage to DNA and chromosomes.
- Uses:
  Historically used in dye manufacturing, as a rubber-compounding agent, and for clinical laboratory testing (e.g., detecting blood). Today, its use is severely restricted or banned in many countries, though small amounts may be used in research.

Physical Properties: It is a solid with a melting point of 120 °C and a boiling point of 401 °C. It has low solubility in water and can be found in the environment as a “free” base or a salt.
Exposure: Exposure generally occurs through inhalation or ingestion of benzidine-based dyes.
